A petroleum equipment exhibition to be held in Karamay in early September will attract the attention of the energy world to this oil city once again.

The 3rd Petroleum Equipment Exhibition will open in Karamay this September, displaying the latest technology in oil industry. It will be the third time for the oil city in the northern part of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to hold a petroleum-themed exhibition, following the China (Karamay) International Oil and Gas and Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition held in both 2012 and 2013.

Preparations for the exhibition have started in earnest. The city has been working on the organization of the exhibition and discussing the event planning with the help of professional conference and exhibition services institutions. Meanwhile, more than 400 invitations have been sent out to petroleum companies at home and abroad. An oil and gas technology seminar is planned to be held during the exhibition, for which a call for academic papers has already been made.

At a preparatory meeting held on March 17, Nie Haiguang, deputy general manager of Xinjiang Oilfield Company, called on organizers to spare no efforts to make the exhibition the most influential petroleum event in western China and even in Central Asia.

The preparatory work this year’s exhibition is challenging since the international oil prices currently are low, according to Nie. How to attract more petroleum companies to take part in the annual event is one of the key issues for the organizers.

The amount of contracts signed at the exhibition in 2013 was worth more than 20 billion yuan ($3.2 billion).
